(The Letter was sent to the AV News on March 20, 2025 — and also to City Council and the ACRD)

Dear Editor,

Enough is enough. The City Council’s haphazard attempts to offload money and responsibility onto the Regional District, and that Board’s glacial pace and stubborn refusal to see the forest for the trees has cost us years and tens of millions of dollars and now, in the midst of a national crisis, jobs.

The ferries are full of ‘USA boycotters’ for Spring Break, and yet our Visitor Centre door is locked, an employee laid off.

This is the most critical example yet of how bickering between politicians at the City, Beaver Creek, Cherry Creek, Sproat Lake, and Beaufort over services that are needed by the entire community hurts all of us.

We have come together as Canadians, we must now come together as residents of Port Alberni.

The ACRD and City need to provide information to citizens on the costs and benefits of uniting the Valley so we can make an informed decision in time for a referendum at the 2026 Municipal Election.

I already know I would vote to unite with everyone with Port Alberni on their mailing address.

We are stronger together.

Chris Alemany
