I sent this letter to my Courtenay-Alberni Member of Parliament, Gord Johns, this morning and copied it to Minister Anand (Anita.Anand@parl.gc.ca) and Prime Minister Carney (pm@pm.gc.ca). I encourage any Canadian reading this to consider sending something to your own MP and the Minister and Prime Minister.

This is the very least we can do in these very dangerous and volatile times.

Dear Gord,

(CC: Global Affairs Minister Anand and Prime Minister Carney)

I hope you are well, and happy New Year.

I urge you to speak up in the House as soon as it reconvenes on the 26th and take our Prime Minister to task for not speaking forcefully enough against The American Fascist’s illegal war in Venezuela and his continued threats against other countries including Canada’s bordering ally Denmark and Greenland.  The Presidents and Prime Ministers of all of Denmark’s Arctic neighbours have spoken up today (January 5th) in unequivocal terms in support of Danish and Greenlandic sovereignty. Our Prime Minister has been silent, like he was in the immediate aftermath of the illegal invasion of Venezuela this weekend.

Words matter, and the Prime Minister is putting Canada in an inexcusably weak position. Remember how silent Europe was in 2014 when the ‘little green men’ first showed up in Crimea and the Donbas? If we continue to be silent and weak in our communications and actions, and Trump follows through on his threats like his Secretary of State says he can be expected to do, then what is stopping him from moving on Canada for our resources as well?

The President of the United States is acting like a Russian Oligarch, not a trustworthy American President, so if Greenland is Ukraine, then Canada is Poland.  We would be next.

In solidarity for Canada and the free world,

Chris
