The polls have closed… we await the results.
No major attacks by insurgents to report… private cars have been banned from the streets.
Powerlines north of Baghdad were sabotaged, causing a major blackout and loss of water… but this has not affected voting.
The BBC reports that: “Turnout among Sunni Arabs is reported to be higher than during the general election earlier this year.”
That’s good news and hopefully even if Sunnis don’t get their wish (which is likely to defeat the referendum), they still value the democratic process.
Another good thing in this election… US Forces are staying in their bases and compounds. Security is being provided exclusively by Iraqi police and armed forces.

And is another indication that the Iraqi defense force is coming on line very nicely…and are involved in measurable strength in keeping order in their country. Americans want nothing better than to see their Iraqi comrads take over protecting their people.
