(Sent to the Times Colonist – October 7 2026)
Dear Editor,
I must respond to Les Leyne’s column where he suggests Eby is betraying British Columbians by accusing one of the richest men in Canada, grocery and media tycoon Jimmy Pattison, of price gouging.
I would like to add historic union busting and alleged food price collusion because surely none of us are so naïve as to think it was only Loblaw’s that fixed the price of bread. In a time of unprecedented inflation, poverty, financial hardship, and record corporate profit and wealth inequity, it is shocking this paper would publish a defence of a man who has seen and benefited from it all, if not directed it.
No amount of charity-washing can put food on people’s tables. Buy BC and support your local markets and neighbourhood family-run corner stores, if you can still find one.
Sincerely
Chris Alemany
